With three individual bars, a charming restaurant and an outdoor terrace, the Mill offers its customers local and world beers, premium spirits and freshly made cocktails, alongside quality, seasonal food in beautiful surroundings.
The Mill’s food menu has been revamped with the appointment of Consultant Chef Steven Doherty – the first Briton to run a three Michelin star restaurant – and now offers diners delicious food to top any gastropub menu. Add to that the new luxurious restaurant setting, the Mill is the place to dine and unwind in Ulverston.
The bar team, run by Bar Manager, John Dodd, continues to serve Cask Marque quality beer, a wide selection of key options, wine and spirits in the three unique, refurbished bars at the Mill. If you prefer a quiet pint, a delicious cocktail, somewhere to watch sports or enjoy a drink outside, the Cask Bar, Terrace Bar or Loft Bar are sure to take your fancy.
The Mill was formerly one of Ulverston’s main flour mills, supplying flour for generations of local families. Parts of this beautiful Grade II listed mill are said to date back to the 12th Century, however the main building was constructed in the 19th century and today retains the original water wheel and many more original features.
The town mill finally closed in the 1970s and lay dormant for some years. Resurrected as a pub in the 1980s, the building enjoyed many ups and downs over a near thirty year period, before being purchased in 2009 by Lancaster Brewery. Known as Millers, the pub was not the most attractive of Ulverston venues so over a three month period, the pub was completely refurbished.
The new the Mill at Ulverston arrived in all its glory in October 2009, with a new ground floor bar, new first floor Terrace Bar and restaurant, and a completely new outside Terrace area. Then in June 2015, following ten weeks of building work converting residential space in The Mill’s attic, the Loft Cocktail Bar was launched.
In January 2017, Lancaster Brewery completed a thorough refurbishment of the ground and first floors of The Mill and introduced a new and exciting team to run The Mill.
