Background

C2 was established in 2002 and is an award-winning leisure group. The company operates four highly respected hotels and pubs, and owns Lancaster Brewery one of the UK's fastest growing cask ale producers.

The company began in January 2002 with the purchase of the Water Witch pub/restaurant in Lancaster. The canal-side pub was transformed from a tired, young persons’ venue to a multi award-winning gastro pub. During C2's five-year ownership the pub won eight local and national awards, culminating in the UK Pub of the Year 2006. The pub was sold to Mitchells of Lancaster in 2007.

The Sun Hotel and Bar - Lancaster

C2 bought Lancaster's Sun Hotel in 2003 as a ramshackle, tired "back-street boozer". During a three-year period the historical 17th Century venue was developed to include an entirely new bar area, 16 ensuite bedrooms and a beer garden. Once again the hotel gained local and national plaudits winning a multitude of awards andwas voted Runner Up in theUK Freehouse of the Year 2009. In May 2009 the bar was voted the seventh best bar in the UK by national trade magazine The Morning Advertiser. The hotel bedrooms are widely regarded as amongst the best in North Lancashire and the range of eight cask ales is unsurpassed in Lancaster.

The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel - Barrow-in-Furness

C2 purchased the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel in Barrow-in-Furness in August 2006. This large, landmark Barrovian hotel had become a shadow of its former self following decades of under investment and C2 spent more than two years transforming the venue. The hotel now boasts 30 luxury ensuite rooms, a large contemporary function room, an intimate bistro restaurant and a large public cask ale bar (recently voted into the Good Beer Guide 2010). The hotel has returned to its pre-eminent position in Barrow and is widely regarded as the most stylish venue in the area.

The Palatine - Morecambe

The Palatine in Morecambe was bought in October 2008. During a fraught seven-week period the pub was totally transformed and is now a contemporary and very stylish cask ale bar offering an array of beers, wines, spirits and genuinely home-cooked food. Already voted CAMRA Lunesdale's Spring Pub of the Season 2009, the pub has become one of Morecambe's most popular bars. The pub has recently been selected as one of Morecambe's representatives in the Good Beer Guide 2010.

Lancaster Brewery

C2 became the majority shareholder of Lancaster Brewery in 2007. Transforming the brewery's fortunes took a huge amount of time and expense but by June 2009 the business was one of the largest micro breweries in North Lancashire and regarded as the fastest growing UK brewery of 2008/9. Offering a stable of four permanent beers, the ale is strictly produced using only malt, water, whole hops and live yeast. This focus on brewing excellence has resulted in a loyal following across Lancashire and Cumbria. In the autumn of 2009 the beer will be available nationally via Wetherspoons and Punch Taverns as the brewery continues to expand. The range of beerbegan to be bottled in September 2009and orders are already in place from customers across the UK, Europe and the USA.

In August 2009 C2 purchased the Mill at Ulverston www.mill-at-ulverston.co.uk. This large bar/restaurant was transformed over a seven week period and opened in late September 2009.

All of C2's businesses follow the same philosophy. To offer quality products, choice andintegrity whilst striving to be contemporary and stylish in design. We have gained an excellent local and national reputation for our consistently excellent venues and products. We employ over 100 people and are proud of the fact that our staff retention levels are second to none in the leisure sector. The company continues to develop with plans for further pub acquisitions in towns across the North West of England.
